Grazr, a DHTML viewer and scripting platform for RSS and OPML, unloaded both barrels today with the announcement of a new funding round and free file hosting.
They will now host static RSS/Atom files, OPML lists, and Grazr scripts on their site. This should open up a new user base of people who want to do mashups but don’t have good hosting arrangements.
Says Mike Kowalchik, the Grazr CTO:
File hosting not only provides a place to put your reading lists (outline / opml files) but also your GrazrScript files. With a place to store and host them, more people can start to explore the power in our custom programming environment. We’ve got some cool stuff rolling out in GrazrScript in the next couple of weeks (procedural code integration) so definitely keep an eye on that.NeatNeat
Neat stuff. Turns out that little bird was right.
The challenge ahead for Grazr will be to provide easier ways to put together Grazrs in a more drag-n-drop interface. Yahoo Pipes has become the new standard for mashup GUIs, and it is a high bar for anyone to jump over.
I also have hopes that they will eventually provide a Flash offering, which would allow for the embedding of grazrs in RSS feeds or on mobile devices. This would be a significant departure from their current approach, but a valuable one if they can make Grazrscript a cross-GUI solution.
