Facelift, Ad Shift: Hello to a New Look, Goodbye Amazon Ads

August 18th, 2007 by Mark Woodman

We’ve been needing a nip and tuck for awhile now, so TechBrew has finally gone under the knife and is now sporting a fresh clean look for the Fall. For those of you in reader land, here’s a thumbnail of the new look-n-feel:

TechBrew’s New Look

Observant readers will also note that we’ve moved from Amazon ads back to Google Adsense. We liked the results we were getting from Amazon, but the script include speed was lousy. Two or three ads made our pages load excruciatingly slow.

Amazon’s Omakase also seems to have decided TechBrew readers were interested in adjustable bikinis and movies with scantily clad women on the DVD covers. (Ahem.) Google Adsense delivers ads a wee bit more on-topic. Considering what Omakase means in Japanese, I found the disconnect between content and ads a bit ironic.

Amazon’s racy ads probably get a better click-through rate, but I haven’t the heart to check the numbers and find out. :)

Love the new TechBrew look? Hate it? Drop a comment or contact us and tell us what you think.
