Jing sucks when it comes to file size – Windows Media Encoder is extremely small but uses its own codec and can’t be played back on VLC for instance

I see that Jing is a project made by the Camtasia people. I’m a big fan of Camtasia 5, which is far superior to WME but isn’t free. I’ll have to check Jing out… thanks for the tip.

The Jing Project (no affiliation) has a nice free screencasting solution that outputs a flash movie. Not as portable as .wmv perhaps, but capable of producing a fairly lightweight, large, high-resolution screencast.
